WHERE & WHEN IS THE RETREAT?
Sunday, Feb. 8, 12:30-5 p.m.
Led by Philip Jones.
Location: Show Me Dharma
1600 W. Broadway
Columbia, MO 65203
Show Me Dharma is located on the southwest corner of W. Broadway and Clinkscales in the blond brick building next to Unity of Columbia church.
Retreats give us an opportunity to experience what happens when mind and body become quiet, steady and focused in the present moment. On retreats we can experience a level of silence and open-heartedness that is hard to experience in the midst of the stimulation of daily life.
As a result of this quiet, steady, focused attention, we are able to see our habitual patterns of wishing life were other than the way it is. Seeing these patterns, we are able to see how they lead to stress and suffering in our lives. We are also able to see more clearly the confusion and identification which keep the patterns arising again and again. When we meet these patterns of mind and body with kindness, non-judgmental attention and wisdom, they are let go and we experience, even if only for a moment, the peacefulness that is always available.
THE DAY'S PROGRAM
During half-day retreats we will alternate periods of sitting and walking meditation. Instructions
and a Dharma talk will be offered, if needed. There will also be time for individual practice consultations and to ask questions in the group.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Everyone is welcome. Pre-registration is not necessary.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The retreat is offered on a dana/donation basis. ("Dana" is a word in the ancient language of Pali. It means generosity, gifts or donations.) Our ability to offer retreats depends on your generosity. If you value the retreat, we encourage you to give joyfully and generously according to your resources. There will be a basket for donations.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Bring a snack if you think you will need it.
Chairs, floor pads and cushions are available. If you have your own sitting cushions or benches you may wish to bring them.
Please bring a watch or other timepiece as you may need it during walking periods.
